Podiatric Residency Program
The Podiatric Residency Program at Good Samaritan University Hospital encompasses all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery, as well as a full array of academic and didactic study.
Full Spectrum of Podiatric Training
The podiatric residency is a three-year program that provides wide-ranging experiences, helping you build a strong foundation for your medical career.
You will have hands on practice that is not available at every residency program, such as workshops in our cadaver lab. These labs give you instruction and hands-on experience performing many podiatric surgery procedures as well as an avenue for original podiatric research.
Good Samaritan University Hospital is a New York State Designated Level II Trauma Center, so you will be exposed to a variety of traumatic and non-traumatic foot and ankle complaints. Beside Emergency Department (ED) cases, you will be part of numerous inpatient consultations. Our large podiatric attending staff gives you contact to a multitude of surgical cases and procedures. Thanks to a close working relationship with the department of orthopedics, you will be able to scrub in on the majority of surgical cases, including all foot and ankle trauma.
You will also tap into the expertise at other Catholic Health hospitals. At the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, you will become an expert on healing wounds of various etiologies, including diabetic, venous and traumatic wounds. You will be part of the patients pre-, intra- and post-operative care. You also have exposure to Advanced Reconstructive Rearfoot Surgery at St. Charles Hospital. Procedures include flatfoot reconstruction, cavus foot reconstruction, OATS procedure, rearfoot fusions, ankle replacements and fusions, and rearfoot trauma.
Serving a diverse population further enhances your training. We partner with Sun River Health (formerly HRHCare) health centers to care for the underserved. The patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric, giving you experience in all facets of podiatry. You also rotate through the private offices of podiatric attendings, offering you the opportunity to learn the unique skills needed for private practice, as well as practice management.
