Spiritual Care for Healing and Support
Good Samaritan University Hospital's pastoral care team gives spiritual and emotional support, regardless of religious affiliation, to patients and their families to enhance the healing process through the care of mind, body and spirit. Our team, comprised of certified and ordained chaplains, offers encouragement and support through prayerful presence and attentive listening.
Our Services
As a patient, our pastoral team offers you and your family:
- Support in your use of personal resources of faith when dealing with an illness.
- Encouragement and a listening ear during difficult times.
- Practical help and comfort in times of grief and in crisis situations.
- Help to explore questions of faith and spirituality.
- Congratulations for the birth of children, progress in recovery or the healing of an illness.
Our staff performs many activities when providing these services, including:
- Visiting you and your family upon admission. Also, at your request, we visit nursing units, waiting areas, the Emergency Department and other outpatient areas.
- Responding to medical emergencies and end-of-life situations.
- Providing you and your family with information regarding support groups.
- Helping you contact clergy of your own religious tradition to celebrate sacraments and perform rituals.
- Sacramental ministry is available to Catholic patients as well as prayer and devotional materials for those of other religious traditions.
A chaplain is available to provide spiritual care for patients on each unit of our hospital. Please let your nurse know if you need to speak with a chaplain and they will contact our team.
Mass is celebrated at the hospital's St. Vincent DePaul Chapel on the first floor of the main building. An interfaith chapel, located in the Baxter Pavilion, is available for prayer and/or quiet time.
Monday-Friday: 12:00 p.m. in the chapel and on Ch. 3 in patient rooms
Friday: Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction, 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm
Saturday: 12:00 p.m.; 5:00 p.m. (Sunday Vigil Mass)
Sunday: 6:15 a.m.; 7:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.
Holy Days: 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass evening before Holy Day
Holy Days: 7:30 a.m; 12:00 p.m.
Mass is televised daily, including weekends, on channel 99 at 12:00 p.m.
