Family Medicine Residency Program
The Family Medicine Residency Program at Good Samaritan University Hospital is a three-year program that encompasses all of the aspects of training needed to be a family practitioner proficient in treating a diverse patient population.
A Full Spectrum of Experiences
The Family Medicine Program offers a wide range of experiences, including structured rotations in Family Medicine continuity clinics, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Surgery and various electives.
Continuity of care is an integral part of your training. This takes place at Sun River Health Martin Luther King Jr. health center (formerly HRHCare). Through a partnership with this organization, Good Samaritan University Hospital provides family health care to the population of Wyandanch, New York and the surrounding areas. Working closely with your attendings, you will play an important role at the health center and the community it serves. Here, as well as with rotations, you will establish and follow a patient base to ensure true continuity of care.
The academic component includes journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, patient rounds, and more. As a senior resident, you will provide instruction and guidance to interns and students. This develops a stabilizing force, which is imperative to the productive and successful learning process of both resident and student. You will also complete a research paper of publishable quality by your third year.
These combined experiences help you continue to evolve into a well-rounded and skilled expert in family medicine.
Accreditation
The Family Medicine Residency Program at Good Samaritan University Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
