Hospitalist Program

The hospitalist in charge of your care will see you every day and can even see you more than once a day if needed. Hospitalists can quickly follow up on tests and adjust your treatment regimen as needed throughout the day. They also update your primary care doctor on any changes in your condition. Hospitalists are onsite at the hospital every day and are readily available to answer any of your questions.

Being cared for by a hospitalist can often help speed your recovery and shorten your hospital stay. Since hospitalists do not have an outside office, they can focus their attention exclusively on your medical care in the hospital. This enables your primary care doctor to be more available to you and your family in the office.

At the time of your admission, the hospitalist will speak with your primary care doctor or specialist who will share as much information about your medical history as possible. The hospitalist will then maintain ongoing communication with your doctor and give him or her updates on your condition.

Hospitalists are a team of doctors available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As no one doctor can do this alone, you might be cared for by more than one hospitalist during your stay. Rest assured that each hospitalist involved in your care will be fully acquainted with your condition and attentive to your needs while in the hospital.

When you are discharged, the hospitalist will discuss your discharge plan with you and prescribe the necessary medications. The hospitalist will transfer your care back to your primary care doctor or specialist and provide a detailed report of your hospital stay, including test results and treatment plan.

To speak with your hospitalist while you are in the hospital, you can ask your nurse to call the doctor. If your assigned hospitalist is not on duty, then another hospitalist will be able to help you.

Nancy Zeitoun, MD, FACP, SFHM, is Director, Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Zeitoun is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician.  Dr. Zeitoun has being practicing hospital medicine for over 10 years.  She completed a combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency program at Albany Medical Center, NY.  She obtained her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine.  She is a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians.  She was a teaching attending at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Assistant Professor of the Hofstra-Northwell Health School of Medicine. Dr. Zeitoun joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in October 2017.

Jasmeet Kaur, MD, Associate Director, is certified in internal medicine, nephrology, and is also board certified as a clinical hypertension specialist. Dr. Kaur graduated from St. George's University and then went on to complete her medical residency at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital in 2007 and nephrology fellowship at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital in 2010. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work both as a hospitalist and as a nephrologist. She was previously working as a nephrologist for past five years with-in the NSLIJ system before joining the St. Francis Hospitalist program.

Rohia Aziz, MD, is a board certified family medicine physician. She attended medical school at Albany Medical College and completed residency training through the Northwell Glen Cove Family Medicine program in 2022. Dr. Aziz joined St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® in January 2023 to directly serve in the community from which she hails.

Eilliut Alicea, MD, Nocturnist is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician. Dr. Alicea has being practicing hospital medicine for over 4 years. He completed an internal medicine residency program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn, NY. He obtained his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Dr. Alicea joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in January 2022. 

Mohammed Bari, MD, FACP, is a Hospitalist who has been board certified in internal medicine since 2010. He completed his residency training at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY, in 2010. After receiving his medical degree from Bangladesh Medical School in 1994, Dr. Bari gained experience by working as a house officer in Urology and Neurosurgery for several years. He also worked as a research assistant in the Stroke Unit at Lutheran Medical Center where he was actively involved in clinical research. Dr. Bari currently serves as a member of the Stroke Committee in addition to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at St. Francis Hospital.

Jane Batterman, MD, is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician.  Dr. Batterman has been practicing hospital medicine for over 10 years.  She graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.  She completed an Internal Medicine residency program and a fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Mount Sinai West Hospital, New York City. She returned to practicing Hospital Medicine at Mount Sinai Brooklyn.  She always wanted to practice near her lifelong home on Long Island.  Dr. Batterman joined the medical staff at St. 
Francis Hospital in July, 2022.
 

Michael Chen, MD, an internal medicine physician. Dr. Chen obtained his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine. He then completed his residency at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Chen joined St. Francis in September, 2021. 
 

Alicia Chionchio, MD, is an internal medicine physician. She completed her residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Hospital with Northwell Health. She graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis, where she received her medical degree. Dr. Chionchio joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in January of 2020.

Rachelle de la Fuente, MD, completed her residency training in internal medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital affiliated to Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2005. She graduated from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy from the State University of Haiti in 1992 and had prior experience as an ophthalmologist. Prior to joining St Francis Hospital, she practiced as a teaching attending physician at Bronx Lebanon Hospital and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Clinical Educator Track at Mount Sinai School of Medicine since 2013, as well as an Adjunct clinical Assistant Professor at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2011. Dr. de la Fuente is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Adreana DeMarinis, MD, is a board certified physician in Internal Medicine. Dr. DeMarinis graduated from American University of Antigua School of Medicine in 2016 and then went on to complete her Internal Medicine training at Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island. She was involved in many quality improvement projects, which focused on improving the patient experience and physician communication with patients and families. She joined the hospitalist’s team at St. Francis in April 2020. In her free time she enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her family. 
 

Maria Fedoseeva, MD, is an experienced Hospitalist who is board certified in Internal Medicine. She completed her residency training at St John's Episcopal Hospital in 2011 in Far Rockaway, NY. She earned her medical degree from Arkhangelsk State Medical Academy in Arkhangelsk, Russia. Prior to joining St. Francis Hospital, she practiced as an Internist in traditional internal medicine practice in Queens for three years. During that time, she worked as a hospitalist for QLIMG at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, in Far Rockaway, NY, and also as a primary care physician at QLIMG Rockaway office in Far Rockaway for two years.

Doina Glodan, MD, FACP, FHM, is an experienced Hospitalist who is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and in Geriatrics. She completed her residency and fellowship training at NY Presbyterian Brooklyn NY Methodist Hospital in 2003.  She earned her Medical Degree from "Gr. T. Popa" University of Medicine in Iasi, Romania, where she also has prior experience as a cardiologist. Prior to joining St Francis Hospital, she practiced as a Hospitalist at Glen Cove Hospital in the Northwell Health System for three years. Before that she worked at Hebrew Health Care, a state-of-the-art nursing home and geriatric hospital in West Hartford, CT, and also as a private internist/geriatrician on the South Shore of Long Island, affiliated with South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. She is an active member and Fellow of The American Society of Hospital Medicine, member of American Geriatric Society, American Medical Association and a Fellow of The American College of Physicians. She is an active member of the Stroke Committee and Medication Safety Committee in St Francis Hospital.

Dr. Khaled Jamoor, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine.  He graduated from Damascus University, Faculty of Medicine in Syria in 2015 and received his medical training in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. Dr. Jamoor joined our team in 2021.
 

Carlos Kim, DO, completed his Family Medicine Residency from Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, NY, with the distinction of Resident of the Year in 2019. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. In 2022, Dr. Kim attained the Designation of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine certification that is jointly awarded by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

His interests lie in evidence-based acute and preventive care in adult hospital medicine. Dr. Kim graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Davie, Florida in 2016. Dr. Kim is passionate about delivering high-quality care to his patients. He joined the Hospital Medicine Division at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® in 2019 as a full-time nocturnist/hospitalist. Dr. Kim won the distinction of Hospitalist of the Year at St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center® in 2021.

Jiju Mathew, MD, is a board certified internal medicine physician.  He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for his bachelor's degree in biology followed by completing medical school at Albany Medical College.    He completed his residency training at George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC which also included training experience at the NIH.  He then worked for two years as a hospitalist for Kaiser Permanente in Arlington, Virginia.  He is originally from New Hyde Park and decided to join St. Francis so that he could return to serve his hometown community.

Myat Myo, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine. A graduate of the University of Medicine in Yangon, Myanmar, she then completed an internal medicine residency program at North General Hospital (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) in 2008.  Dr. Myo comes to St. Francis Hospital, after having extensive Hospitalist medicine experience in several hospitals in New Hampshire and Long Island. She served as an Associate Program Director and clinical faculty at Mather Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program since 2016 and Assistant Professor of the Hofstra-Northwell Health School of Medicine since 2018.

Salma Syed, MD, is a Board Certified Internal medicine physician since 2011. Dr. Syed has been practicing hospital medicine for eight years. She completed her internal medicine residency training at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY in 2011. She obtained her medical degree from Mymensingh Medical College, in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Dr. Syed was a hospitalist at Long Island Community Hospital, Patchogue, NY, and joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in December of 2019.

Charles Thomas, MD, is a Hospitalist, Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Thomas is an Internal Medicine Physician. He completed an internal medicine residency program at NYU Langone Hospital - Long Island (formerly known as Winthrop University Hospital) in Mineola, NY.  He was a physician educator for medical students in the NYU Langone Hospital Long Island medical school. He obtained his medical degree from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine. Dr. Thomas joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in May 2022.
 

Zar Chi Win, MD, is a board certified internal medicine physician. Dr. Win has been practicing hospital medicine for over three years.  She completed her internal medicine residency program at Easton Hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. Win obtained her medical degree from Institute of Medicine I, in Yangon, Myanmar.  She was a hospitalist at Long Island Community Hospital, NY, and joined the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital in January of 2020.

Raul J. Madrid–Zepeda, MD,  is a Board Certified Internist. Dr. Madrid–Zepeda obtained his medical degree from Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado in El Salvador, Central America. He obtained his accreditation from the Educational Commission for Foreign Graduates after which he proceeded to complete his medical residency in Internal Medicine in 2017 at Saint Barnabas Hospital, part of SBH Health Systems in the Bronx, NY.

Prior to joining Catholic Health, Dr. Madrid-Zepeda was part of Brigham and Women’s Hospitalist team in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by Mount Sinai Health Systems for five years working as Medical Director of the Heart Failure Unit at Mount Sinai Queens. Dr. Madrid–Zepeda joined Saint Francis Hospital & Heart Center® medical staff in November 2022.
