- Neck pain
- Numbness, weakness, difficulty walking
- Pinched nerves
- Sciatica
- Scoliosis
- Spinal fractures
- Spinal stenosis

- Spondylolysis (stress fracture in one of the vertebrae)
- Spondylolisthesis (condition where a vertebra slips forward over the vertebra below it)
Nonsurgical and Surgical Treatments
Catholic Health spine specialists have the training and experience to treat both the most common and complex spinal disorders.
Surgical options range from minimally invasive spine surgery to more complex spinal reconstruction. Our spinal team uses the latest, most advanced technology for greater accuracy, smaller incisions and easier recovery.
Our board-certified neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons are assisted during surgery by an intraoperative monitoring team. This team monitors motor skills, muscles and nerves to ensure your safety. We continue caring for you throughout the recovery process with a team of neurosurgical nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and supporting medical staff.
- Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion—removes a herniated or degenerative vertebral disc in your neck and replaces it with a bone graft. This procedure can relieve painful pressure on spinal nerves.
- Cervical posterior foraminotomy—creates more space for a compressed spinal nerve in your neck. This procedure relieves painful pressure caused by a herniated or degenerative disc.
- Laminectomy—relieves pressure on the nerve roots in the spine. It is most commonly performed to relieve the pain of stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal that is often caused by the formation of bony growths that can press against the nerve roots. Your surgeon may treat one or more vertebrae.
- Microdiscectomy—minimally-invasive procedure that relieves pressure on nerve roots caused by a herniated disc. It can eliminate the pain of sciatica.
- Posterior lumbar interbody fusion—fuses two of your vertebrae with implants and bone graft material to stabilize your spine. It can be used to treat pain caused by degenerative disc disease.
- Spinal cord stimulator implant—uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain of the back, arms and legs. It is believed that electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. Candidates include patients who suffer from neuropathic pain and for whom conservative treatments did not work.
- Spinal fusion in the lumbar spine for treatment of spondylolisthesis, a spinal condition that causes a lower vertebra to slip forward over the vertebra below. In many spinal surgeries, two or more vertebral bones are permanently joined with a technique called "spinal fusion." A fusion creates a solid mass of bone and stabilizes your spine.
- Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion—used to treat back or leg pain caused by degenerative disc disease. Your surgeon stabilizes your spine by fusing vertebrae together with bone graft material.
- Vertebroplasty—minimally-invasive procedure that injects bone cement into a vertebra to stabilize a compression fracture of the spine. One or more vertebra may need to be treated.
Catholic Health's compassionate spinal experts understand the impact that back pain has on your quality of life. Treatment plans are tailored to your specific needs and level of pain. Our goal is to alleviate pain and provide long-lasting comfort to improve your overall health.
The initial course of treatment for low back pain is often nonsurgical. We offer a comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation program and pain management treatments. Your doctor will discuss the best options for you.
