Meet Ken Milau, respiratory therapist at St. Charles Hospital. Ken is admired for his dedication to our patients and is known by doctors and nurses as the “mayor” of the evening shift. As one colleague stated, “Everyone knows Ken.” His accolades recently earned him the title of “Employee of the Month.”
For 15 years, Ken has been with Catholic Health, helping patients breathe more easily. He even designed a rapid response tackle box used for emergencies to prevent respiratory arrest. “When patients are breathing better or feel as if they have been heard and their respiratory problems are addressed, I know I’m making difference,” said Ken.
Ken continually looks to further his own professional knowledge by attending respiratory conferences on his personal time. He also shares important information with his colleagues and helps train new employees.
Ken likes his role in large part because he gets to help patients. He’ll always try to make them smile with a quick joke.
For Ken Milau, the Catholic Health mission is something to live and breathe every day. Asked whether he has any advice for newcomers to the team, Ken says, “Make sure you are doing this for the right reasons—helping people.”
