There for our patients. There for our employees.
Jeannette Jaeger thinks of herself as a problem solver. A seasoned veteran of Catholic Health, she spent years on the clinical side of health care before transitioning to Human Resources (HR) as an administrator.
“I started as a nursing assistant, serving in our med/surg units here at Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital,” recalled Jeannie. “I transferred to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and mother/baby units, then later to the Emergency Department. I know the challenges nurses and other clinical staff face each day, so when an opportunity came to move into HR, I felt well positioned to take on a new role.”
Jeannie focuses on explaining Catholic Health benefits to new employees. “I want to be sure our staff know how all the processes work so they can get the most out of our benefits plans,” said Jeannie. “There’s a lot of instructional duties in my role, and I’m happy to get new staff up to speed with how things flow.”
Jeannie also helps organize employee events like Hospital Week or Nurses Week and other events recognizing the dedication of Mercy Hospital employees. “Health care is a 24/7 work environment, so when we get the chance each year to signal to our employees how much we appreciate their hard work, it’s very uplifting,” explained Jeannie.
The longtime Mercy veteran also likes to assist employees who require extra support during difficult times. “When an employee’s spouse loses a job or when a child living at home loses insurance coverage, we can ease the burden if they let us know promptly. I like to help our employees wherever I can,” said Jeannie.
Jeannie says there’s a definite profile to the Catholic Health workforce. She sums it up as ‘dedication.’ “Our people are highly focused and very patient-centric,” said Jeannie. “I see it over and over. We’re here to do our best for our patients. And I’m here to do my best for all the employees who put our patients first.”
