Frequently Asked Questions
General otolaryngology is specialized care for conditions and diseases that affect the ears, nose and throat (ENT). These include laryngitis, snoring, sleep apnea, tonsillitis and parotitis.
We offer comprehensive treatment for all ear, nose and throat disorders. Treatment options include:
- Ear surgery
- Head and neck surgery
- Sinus surgery
- Sleep apnea surgery
- Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy
Our pediatric specialists treat tonsils, adenoids, allergic sinusitis, chronic ear infections, hearing loss and voice disorders.
The most common surgery we perform is tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy to remove the tonsils and adenoids. This surgery is usually for children. Our pediatric team will take excellent care of your child. Most children can go home the same day.
Patients who have dizziness, vertigo or balance difficulties may have problems with their vestibular system. This system is within the brain and controls balance. Our physicians evaluate, diagnose and treat some of the more common ear and balance disorders.
Ear surgeries include stapedectomy for otosclerosis, mastoid surgery for chronic middle ear disease and tympanic membrane repairs.
The larynx (voice box) is the organ for voice production. It is also critical for normal swallowing and breathing. Disorders of the larynx can lead to hoarseness and breathing difficulties. Our physicians expertly evaluate and treat disorders of the larynx.
Our physicians offer the most advanced treatments for common nasal and sinus disorders, including a deviated septum.
We offer the last advances in minimally invasive sinus surgery. The BrainLAB ENT is an image-guided endoscopic procedure, which in most cases is performed entirely through the nostrils, that leaves no external scars.
Using image-guided technology, sinus surgeons combine computed tomography (CT or CAT) scans and computers to make sinus surgery safer and more efficient. The surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure using an intranasal approach without any incisions.
The thyroid is a small gland in the lower part of your neck. Its function is to secrete hormones which deliver energy to your body. Common thyroid ailments include:
- Hyperthyroidism—an overactive thyroid
- Hypothyroidism—an underactive thyroid
- Thyroid cancer—malignant thyroid nodules or tissue
Our physicians are experts in treating all thyroid conditions.
The salivary glands are tissues located in your mouth and throat. Their primary function is to maintain oral and dental hygiene and aid chewing and digestion. Salivary glands also prevent dehydration, as they signal your body to produce more fluid when your mouth is dry. We treat all salivary gland disorders.
Sleep disorders include a range of problems, from insomnia to narcolepsy and snoring. Our sleep specialists are trained in the latest procedures for treating sleep disorders.
Sleep apnea is a life-threatening problem. We offer surgery options like uvulopharyngplasty (UVPP), which relieves patients of obstructing tissue. Patients are usually kept overnight to monitor their safety.
