Patient Guide to Patient Experience Surveys and Ratings
“Placing patients at the center of everything that we do” is a guiding principle of Catholic Health.
At Catholic Health, we believe in providing patients with all of the information they need to make choices about their healthcare. As part of this commitment, we post patient experience star ratings and comments from verified patients on the profile pages of our healthcare providers.
About the Survey
Catholic Health partners with Press Ganey, a third party vendor, to administer the patient experience survey. For more than 25 years, Press Ganey has been the industry’s leading Human Experience vendor for healthcare and has the largest database of patient feedback through patient surveys. Press Ganey works with more than 10,000 healthcare organizations nationwide to improve quality, safety, and experience outcomes.
Patients are invited to complete surveys based upon their interactions at our medical practice offices, hospital stay, or outpatient clinics. The surveys ask patients to evaluate how well their experience was, and the results are used to evaluate the patients’ overall perception of care and to identify areas for improvement.
Survey ratings and patient comments are shared on the Catholic Health website for the benefit of our patients and physicians. Our physicians also receive their patient ratings on a regular basis and are asked to continually monitor their patients’ feedback and ratings.
Star Ratings
Star ratings are based on patient responses to five questions about care from their physician:
- Concern the care provider showed for your questions or worries.
- Explanations the care provider gave you about your problem or condition.
- Care provider’s efforts to include you in decisions about your care.
- Care provider’s discussion of any proposed treatment (options, risks, benefits, etc.).
- Likelihood of your recommending this care provider to others.
For each physician, ratings from their patients are averaged together to form a single overall star rating. The more ratings a physician receives increases the accuracy and reliability of the results. The physician’s rating will only be posted on the site if they have a minimum of 20 completed surveys.
Comments from Patients
Catholic Health is committed to sharing comments that are included on the survey. Identifying details in a comment may be removed and marked as such to protect patient privacy and the privacy of staff members who are not the subject of review. Other exclusion criteria may include comments that are libelous, offensive, or contain profane language.
We encourage all patients to tell us about their experience with our doctors.
