Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center and St. Charles Hospital both received an “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that measures patient safety standards in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction recognizes the outstanding achievements of both hospitals in protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.
“Catholic Health is committed to delivering the best care and treatment on Long Island,” said Catholic Health President and CEO Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA. “As our hospitals earn high recognition for safety and quality, we infuse our best practices across all of our facilities. That continuity of exceptional care is raising standards not only at Catholic Health but across the health care landscape. We’re proud to be out in front for safety and quality.”
The latest rating marks St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center’s 14th consecutive and 24th overall “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group. St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has received more ‘A’ grades for safety from Leapfrog than any hospital in New York State since the safety scores first launched in 2012. Its nationally ranked cardiovascular services and innovations are now available at our other Catholic Health hospitals, as well as at our many Ambulatory Care sites. In fact, every Catholic Health cardiologist is a part of St. Francis Heart Center.
Additionally, this is the third consecutive "A" grade for St. Charles Hospital since fall 2023. St. Charles Hospital features four Centers of Excellence: Maternal/Child services, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation and Robotic Surgery. St. Charles is recognized as the region’s most comprehensive rehabilitation provider and is the only hospital on Long Island with CARF-accreditation for its inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation program for children and adults.
