Recognized nationally for its exceptional achievements in patient safety and quality, Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has been honored as a Top Teaching Hospital for the third consecutive year by The Leapfrog Group, a leading national organization focused on health care safety and quality.
St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has received more ‘A’ grades for safety from Leapfrog than any hospital in New York State since the safety scores first launched in 2012. To earn this distinction, hospitals must rank among the best in their category on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which evaluates hospital performance based on the highest standards for quality and patient safety.
“In addition to our 24 ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grades from Leapfrog, we are honored to receive this Top Teaching Hospital recognition for the third year in a row,” said Charles Lucore, MD, MBA, President of St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center. “Each day, with every patient, our staff remains deeply committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. I am incredibly proud to work alongside this dedicated group, ensuring that our patients receive the most advanced and compassionate care possible.”
“Catholic Health is highly regarded in the field of medical education, said Catholic Health President Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA. “St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center has long been recognized as a leader in groundbreaking medical and surgical research. Additionally, Good Samaritan University Hospital attracts many medical graduates to its diverse residency programs, covering numerous specialties. As part of Catholic Health’s integrated health care system, students and residents who complete their training with us gain access to a variety of rewarding career opportunities within our six hospitals and extensive network of employed practices.”
The award qualifications take into account the quality of patient care across various aspects of hospital performance, including infection rates, safer surgery practices, maternity care and the hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors. Over 2,400 hospitals were evaluated for the award, with only 134 earning the distinction of Top Teaching Hospitals.
