The Guilds of Good Samaritan University Hospital (West Islip, NY) the volunteer arm of the facility dating back to 1958, have made their largest philanthropic commitment in the history of the organization. A pledge of $250,000 was provided in support of the hospital’s new Emergency Department, a major component of the upcoming Patient Care Pavilion, opening at the end of 2025. Fundraising efforts by this dedicated group of individuals have included multiple raffle events, sales at their Thrift Shop located in Babylon Village and gift shop located on the campus of Good Samaritan.
“This historic project represents the largest modernization since the hospital was first built,” said grateful patient and current Central Council of the Guilds of Good Samaritan University Hospital President Leon Gurinsky. “Being able to make a significant gift for the new Emergency Department continues the spirit of Good Samaritan and reflects our ongoing commitment to proudly serving and supporting our community alongside the hardworking staff and leaders of this hospital.”
Good Samaritan University Hospital is currently in the process of constructing its new $500 million, 300,000-square-foot Patient Care Pavilion, which will feature a 75-bay emergency department, 16 high-tech operating rooms and three floors of single, private patient rooms as well as larger and enhanced clinical areas. This facility will provide new amenities, comforts, state-of-the art technology and more in support of premier programs such as the hospital’s verified Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Centers, the Gary H. Richards and Family Stroke & Brain Aneurysm Center of Long Island, the St. Francis Heart Center at Good Samaritan, the Catholic Health Cancer Institute and more.
“The Guilds of Good Samaritan are an extraordinary group of individuals who have selflessly taken their time to support the hospital and its employees, said Good Samaritan University Hospital President Justin Lundbye, MD, MBA, FACHE. “The impact they make extends to the residents in Suffolk and eastern Nassau Counties that we serve. We thank them for all of their efforts and are proud to call them members of the Good Samaritan family.”
