Catholic Health named Pratibha Vemulapalli, MD, MBA/MS, chair of surgery of Good Samaritan University Hospital.
She will oversee all surgical services of this 437-bed, not-for-profit hospital in West Islip. Good Samaritan is the flagship and tertiary care hub for Catholic Health in Suffolk County, providing premier services that include The Gary H. Richard and Family Stroke & Brain Aneurysm Center, a Verified Adult Level 1 and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center, and the St. Francis Heart Center and Catholic Health Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan. The hospital is in the final phases of development of its upcoming Patient Care Pavilion, which will feature a new emergency department, replacement operating rooms and private patient rooms.
Dr. Vemulapalli previously served as Brooklyn Hospital Center’s, an affiliate of the Mt. Sinai Health System, chair of surgery for the last eight years and director of perioperative services for Montefiore Health System prior.
Dr. Vemulapalli is an industry veteran, whose experience has also encompassed other positions at the Montefiore Health System, including chief of bariatric surgery and attending surgeon. She has held academic appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is Board Certified in General Surgery and completed her Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy & Bariatric Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Ina addition, she holds an EMBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University/Weill Cornell School of Medicine. She has held a number of national and regional positions for various clinical and educational organizations and holds many published research projects and presentations.
