Beacon Award

Catholic Health’s Good Samaritan University Hospital has once again earned silver-level Beacon Awards for Excellence from The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for its Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU/IMCU).

The Beacon Award for Excellence is annually conferred to North American hospital units whose nurses improve outcomes and unit culture by aligning their practice with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards and meet specific criteria within the Beacon Award Program’s three modules—Patient Outcomes, Workforce Environment and Nursing Workforce—to achieve unit excellence.

"An unwavering commitment to quality, safety and patient experience is at the center of all our operations,” said Good Samaritan University Hospital President Justin Lundbye, MD. “These awards are a reflection of our MICU and CTICU/IMCU teams’ consistent and systematic approach to providing rigorously researched, evidence-based care to both optimize patient outcomes and improve the work environment. In earning these awards, these units serve as international examples of excellence in clinical care and workforce satisfaction.”

For patients and their families, the Beacon Award signifies exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall satisfaction. For nurses, a Beacon Award means a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration between colleagues and leaders.

Good Samaritan University Hospital will hold these designations for three years. For more information about the AACN Beacon Award for Excellence, click here
