High-Risk Breast Cancer Screening Program
Any woman scheduled for a mammogram at our center who meets the below criteria will have a breast cancer risk score calculated. This score is based on personal information, such as age, height, weight, hormonal history, breast density, negative genetic test results (if applicable), and family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer in a first—or second-degree relative.
If the breast cancer risk exceeds a 20% lifetime risk, then patients are recommended to follow up in 6 months with a breast MRI as well as to see a high-risk breast surgeon and genetic counselor.
The program is available to women under the age of 70 who have not had a diagnosis of breast cancer and do not have a hereditary cancer gene mutation in any breast cancer genes, such as ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, CDH1, PALB2, PTEN, STK11, RAD51C, RAD51D and TP53.
