Cancer Patient Resources & Support

Learning you have cancer is life altering and can be an overwhelming experience.

Our cancer team includes oncology social workers, oncology nurse navigators, and behavioral health specialists. We offer individual counseling and support groups during and after cancer treatment.

The cost of cancer care and its related expenses are concerning for many patients. We offer financial counseling and referrals to support services, financial resources and organizations that offer assistance.

Nutrition is an important component during your cancer treatment and throughout your recovery and survivorship.

Oncology dietitians are available for all cancer patients at Catholic Health. Our team of cancer nutrition specialists provides education and support at every stage of care.

Services we offer include:

• A personalized nutrition care plan based on your needs that can improve your response to therapy and speed your recovery.
• Diet recommendations to help you manage side effects that affect your appetite and weight and diminish your quality of life.
• Review of potential dietary interactions with your food, medication or supplements.
• Suggestions, education and counseling focused on improving your nutrition intake with a balanced eating plan.

The integration of spiritual, emotional, social, psychological and physical care are critical in promoting healing.

Our pastoral care team works with your cancer care providers to offer spiritual care to you and your family. Pastoral care services are open to any patient and their family from all religious affiliations. You also have access to a dedicated palliative care team.

Patient navigators at Catholic Health are specially trained registered nurses who support and guide you through every step of your cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow-up/survivorship care.

Our patient navigators:

• Coordinate appointments, testing, treatment and follow-up services.
• Help reduce or eliminate barriers to the care you need.
• Provide education and emotional support.
• Provide referrals to support services such as social work, pastoral care or medical nutrition.
• Serve as a resource, advocate and consistent contact person.
• Work with you and your care team to develop a survivorship care plan.

At Catholic Health, we believe survivorship begins at diagnosis and lasts through the balance of your life with follow-up care and monitoring. We work closely with you to connect your survivorship care plan with your primary care provider.

We also help you understand and manage the concerns and challenges you may experience after your cancer treatment ends, including:

• Adjusting to your new normal
• Altered job responsibilities or finances
• Anxiety or depression
• Changes in physical appearance
• Fear your cancer may return
• Managing ongoing symptoms
